Cinema for couch potatoes and web nerds
21. November 2009 von praphulaWant to watch the films from IFFH 2009 a second time or haven’t made it to the festival? Fortunately, the internet is an inexhaustible treasure trove and, in this case, the largest cinema in the world.
Watch the animation film Hardcover and Paperpack by Uri Alonim and Moshe Servatka from Israel here.

Hans Steinbichler
He was being very honest when introducing the topic of his Master Class: having seen so many bad movies at the festival, Hans Steinbichler said he thought it was necessary to talk about failure in filmmaking – and its importance for a career as a director.

Tears of the Son
The program started with Dean Threadgold’s comedy “Tears of the Son”, a well done action film spoof. The setting is professional and the characters are complex and elaborated. One would only wish that Josh, the little boy with the huge ears who wants to cure cancer with the tears of action star Buck Harris, had more time for his personal development than the 15 minutes of a short film.
Confusions and pregnancy in program #9
19. November 2009 von praphulaContaining movies like the animation “Tess has a stain on her dress” and the feature “Janna & Liv” program #9 is another highlight of the festival. It will be screened again tomorrow, November 20th at 17:30 pm.
Program #4: a guided tour through Jerusalem and a frottee-puppet with an identity crisis
19. November 2009 von praphulaIn this program some very impressing movies were shown, such as Benjamin Freidberg’s “Guided Tour”, Aiden Prewett’s “Me, Myself and iPod” and Emma de Swaef’s “Soft Plants”. If you have missed it: sorry, no chance to watch it again at the festival. Anyway, here is a short overview.

Anyone for Candy
The program started with a German road movie: “Anyone for Candy” by Karl-Hagen Stötzer looks at two guys from Berlin going to Poland to buy smoke-bombs they want to throw during the next football game. They have the grandmother coming with them as she needs a new permanent wave. On their way back the old woman almost dies from a candy in her windpipe, and the friendship of the two young men takes a turn. “I know lots of people who are like these two guys and I wanted to show that they’ve got their stories, too, that they have to be taken serious,” Karl-Hagen says.
Some additional explanations
19. November 2009 von praphulaHe studied at the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune and, likewise, surprised and irritated the festival visitors with his graduation film “Shri Baron von Desquamat & Conqueer the Great”. Jens Carl Daugbjerg talks about living in India and about his movie. I can highly recommend watching it this evening, by the way.
The festival-crew
18. November 2009 von praphulaThis is to inform you who you need to talk to if you have a problem, want a coffee or need a recommendation for a good bar. And, of course, to blow our own horn as well.

Mona Förtsch is the one who literally organises everything. She invites the directors and composes the film program, keeps contact with the jury and takes care of the accommodation and the overall well-being of the guests.
Mona studied Culture and Management in Görlitz. She started working for the Film Festival as a trainee in 2006. A little later, when she was studying in New York, she received an e-mail with an offer for a full-time job at the association and, of course, she accepted. She has been responsible for the festival organisation since March 2008.
